Something Just Out of View is presented as part of Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival's Arts Program, exploring the rapid transformation and loss of information through replication. It is a performance, a three part play, from the curators of ‘And I Strongly Suggest you Wear Sensible Shoes’.
The performance and garments created are built on a framework of dissecting past fashion show transcriptions from the New York Times. The exhibition explores concepts ‘of the moment’ using gaps in the literature to explore what is just out of view, the missing information and a distortion of truth.
Collaborating with local upcoming creatives in soundscape, lighting, set design, photography and literature. Through collaborative practice, the delivery of our ideas and concepts are reimagined and our connection to the local industry is deepened.
This event showcases a considered capsule collection incorporating moments of costume and ready-to-wear, to be performed in and to be sold. Through movement and narrative the garments are imbued with their own character. Moments are constructed with the intention to be provoking as we push the everyday assumptions of fashion into the ridiculous.
