Far Flung: Connecting Intergenerational Families is an exhibition produced collaboratively between eleven new immigrant families and Manningham’s ‘social artists in residence’ team Tammy Wong Hulbert, Sofi Basseghi, Amy Kennedy and Yuso Lee. The families of this exhibition are both the subject and the co-creators of the project.
Far Flung recognises the fast evolving diversity of Manningham, as these families have both a connection to local and global places in the world, across the Asia Pacific region, from China, Taiwan, Korea, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Columbia.
The exhibition presents the voices of eleven local family teams, consisting of a child and their elected guardian. Over ten weeks, the families worked together with the professional artists team to workshop and explore notions of how they relate to local and global places and to explore how contemporary families of Manningham are evolving.
By leading the families through the creative process, the Far Flung team have developed a ceramic based installation project exploring the idea of a global sense of home through their connection to food, sharing and creating comfort, forming the basis of the exhibition. Audiences will be invited to share their experiences through video, which unveils their creative journey.
