The team of creatives behind Melbourne’s Sugar Republic has opened a free exhibition in the underground arcade linking Degraves and Flinders Streets.
Using the experience of the past few months, the 12 installations that make up the Rainbow Walk take us on a journey through the pandemic landscape into the ‘new normal’ and look at how we can use our experiences to envision a better future.
Set in the 1950s pink-tiled Campbell Arcade, the display windows carry visual messages of resilience and positivity, conveyed boldly in an ‘experience museum’ format using everyday objects against colour blocked backgrounds. Paint, reflection, light and texture are used in unexpected ways to stop people as they pass through the arcade. The feelings evoked are then taken away into their day.
The journey ends at a ‘pot of gold’, a display case of classic yellow post-its carrying Melburnian’s hopes and ideas for better days.
Open Monday to Friday 7am-7pm, Saturday 10am-5pm. Closed Sundays. Free admission.
