Vestige is an evocative installation by Brighton-based artist Anna Rowbury. Comprising ceramic objects in muted pastel tones that are suggestive of architectural fragments, utilitarian forms and abstracted domestic elements, Vestige is an atmospheric three-dimensional still life composition that induces the fragmented nature of memory and history.
The inspiration for the work comes from the places and spaces where unused and discarded objects accumulate – the backyard bungalow, the mechanic’s workshop, the old dairy. These were once places of order and purpose that are now often found filled with the unwanted, unused and the discarded. In these spaces, time decays objects to the point where they become unknown; they develop a shared patina and eventually return to the earth.
Gallery open from Wednesday to Friday, 11:00am–5:00pm, Saturday and Sunday, 1:00pm–5:00pm.
